V for Vendetta

Mar 30 2006 - Uniquely Brilliant. Totally forgot I was scared watching the trailer, I don't always do thrillers, but this Shakespeare-spouting Hugo Weaving was fantastic!

Remember, remember the 5th of November,
gunpowder treason and plot.
I know of no reason
why the gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.

V : Voilą! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-ą-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

Instead of slo-mo bullets, you get knives/daggers in slo-mo. Way cool! Love the choreography of the fight scenes, the explosive fireworks, the subtle use of music to enhance the scene and experience. I could rant on forever.

I love the dialogue, the lines, the plot. Marvellously composed, produced and directed. You could almost smell Andrew Lloyd Webber. But this was the Wachoswki brothers at their best. I didn't understand The Matrix, but I definitely got this.

F for Freedom Fighter - Reborned from an experiment on humans gone wrong, V escapes only to vow revenge on those who disfigured him and killed any sense of feeling he ever had. He finds an ally in Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman) when he rescues her in a dark alley.

It'll be great to see some form of emotion on Hugo's face instead of him donning Guy Fawke's mask throughout the movie.

Then again, we haven't seen much when he played Mr Smith in The Matrix, nor as Elron in Lord of the Rings. He always seems to have a plastic look plastered on his face. Oh well, at least I didn't keep expecting him to say, "Mr Anderson, nice to see you" !

Queen B - Natalie (Portman) has improved and grown since potraying Queen Amidala in Star Wars Episode 1. Her British accent was almost believable, as good as Drew Barrymore in Ever After.

Natalie showed so much emotions, and potrayed such maturity, wouldn't be surprised to see her in the next Oscar's list.

V for VVow - The domino scene (where V tips over black and red dominoes to form a giant letter V) involved 22,000 dominoes, was assembled by four professional domino assemblers, and took 200 hours to set up.
